Dollar is not backed up by any real asset. It is subject to continuous inflation. Inflation is even worse because banks have legal option to "print" money by just writing numbers in the electronic bank accounts and card balances.
The real asset should be restricted in its quantity. Like the quantity of the land square ft at this planet, quantity of gold kgs. Land is not liquid enough. So the good option for investing is gold (or stock features for the gold).
Cryptocurrency also have disadvantage. Quantity of certain currency is restricted like bitcoin. However total potential quantity of all the cryptocurrencies is not restricted yet. E. g. ethereum quantity is officially not restricted. Even worse: nobody is prohibited from creating new cryptocurrency. For now, there are plenty of them and many of them already became blasted bubbles...
So the only reasonable option is to invest in gold...
